Take Back Your Time by Morgan Tyree

"Take Back Your Time" by Morgan Tyree is an organization and scheduling book.  I am not an organized person by nature so I was very interested in this book.  However, it was way more advanced than I am at organizing.  With the three different levels it uses and all the different tasks you need to do to figure out where things should be scheduled in your life, I got overwhelmed.  I just need simple easy lessons on scheduling and this was not for me.  Maybe I am just too simple just give me a plain planner with no stickers or extras and I can plan my day still have issues but that is me. So if you are looking for something more advanced then this book is for you.  So I recommend it for the non-basic easy-going planner type person.

Protecting Your Child From Predators by Beth Robinson

"Protecting Your Child From Predators" by Beth Robinson and Latayne Scott is about not only identifying how a predator works but also on how to help/teach your children at different ages about predators.  This is such a powerful and informative book in my opinion it is a must read by any church or group that has kids in it.  There are so many points that I really agreed with.  Some of my favorite are for example if you or your child have a bad feeling about someone follow that instinct don't ignore it.  I personally have had bad feeling about not trusting someone and then later find out they are a rapist.  This book teaches us how to teach our children from a young age about predators in an age appropriate way.  Also this book explains that most of the time the predators are people close to us or sometimes the friendlist person you know.   You just have to read this to be able glean all the good information from this book as it is a very powerful book that I could not put down and I highly recommend it to any one.

A Serial Killers Daughter by Kerri Rawson

"A Serial Killer's Daughter" by Kerri Rawson is the story of Kerri, not just her dad who is the convicted BTK killer.    Before you throw this book out saying oh she is just trying to make her dad look no that is not it at all.  She is sharing how she grew up with a man as a dad that she had no idea led a behind the scenes life of being a serial killer. It does start out with her giving some history of her dad's life before he married her mom and their life together before she was born.  But most of the book is about her life with her dad and how she thought he was a normal dad.  I chose to read this book because we have a tendency as a society that serial killers also create victims of their family.  What do I mean by that well their families think everything is normal and that serial killers are someone else.  They have hopes and dreams of a normal life and the serial killer especially when they are caught have killed their hopes and dreams.  She writes on how she was broken by her dad's arrest and how she did at first did not think it could be true.  But over time she had to come to terms with how her dad is a psychopath and that she was also a victim.  She never glorifies her dad she just talks about him like he was any other dad but she does realize as the years go on past his arrest that he was emotionally abusive to her family and that was a hard pill to swallow.  I liked this book as she focuses on her faith helping thru things and it was a reminder to me not to treat the families or friends of serial killers horrible as most of the time they had no idea and they are victims of the killer themselves.  I highly recommend this book especially since we never truly know every person in our lives.

The Brave Art of Motherhood by Rachel Marie Martin

"The Brave Art of Motherhood" by Rachel Marie Martin is a book with the authors stories of motherhood that are to encourage us to fight fear and be confident in who we are.  This was not your stereotypical Christian motherhood book about their perfect life this author admits things have gone wrong and her kids are not perfect.  My favorite encouragement the author gave me was talking about how I can be happy no matter if my house is spotless or messy nightmare.  I also really enjoyed when she talks about the sins of being to busy and the sin of pride how they can be the same or even different at the same time.   Another topic that helped me even though she doesn't completely point it out that I need to finish items not just hop from one idea to the next. I highly recommend this book and I especially want to point out something the author points out also that sometimes as a mom we do need to freak out as it can help get things done.

Live Long and... by William Shatner

"Live Long and.. What I Learned Along the Way" by William Shatner is a memoir on living life the best way you can.  Now I will say yes I knew of William Shatner from Star Trek and many other shows/movies but thought he was an arrogant jerk.  But this book has changed my mind about him and would like to meet him one day.  He really is open in this book especially about feeling like a loner even in a group of people I am so like that.  He really is down to earth more than the character types he usually plays.  This book was interesting and very encouraging.  I like how he talks about no matter what your age embrace the adventure in life and stay active.  If if you are only a slight fan of his but need encouraging to live life and enjoy it read this book.

Unified by Tim Scott & Trey Gowdey

"Unified" by Senators Tim Scott & Trey Gowdy is about how two senators from different backgrounds and races have come together to not create division but to friends in diversity.  This was such a powerful book on their friendship also on how yes we may not experience the things the same way as others but we can still be friends.  My favorite quote from the book really points that out which "No matter what differences we may have with another person - social, racial, political, spiritual, ideological - if we will look for something we have in common, or something we can admire or emulate in the other person, we can always build on that."  These two senators attitudes and love of the lord Jesus is just so powerful on how they show Christian love no matter what has or is happening to them.   They don't dismiss the racism that still happens to African-American's today but the don't focus on it and try to show love to others.  They also talk about how people are still treated differently due to skin.  One area that can be considered controversial that they talk about is how people selling small amounts of cocaine are usually slapped on the wrist while someone selling small amount of crack the book is thrown at them.  This is just a very good book on race and working together as Christians, I highly recommend it.

Through A Mother's Tears by Cathy Broomfield

"Through A Mother's Tears" by Cathy Broomfield is a book about a mother's pain of one daughters murder and the death of another daughter from drinking herself to death.  This was a heart breaking story of the mother's hurt and anger.  The author had an idea that her daughter Kristy's husband was very bad news but as a sad normal the abused could not believe it.  While the author tries to portray her daughters as perfect people that sadly was not true, they made decisions that put them both in a lifestyles that are higher risk of death.  Still that is no reason for Kristy's murder or to see a daughter drink herself to death to hide her pain from loosing a sister in a violent way.   I really hope this book is an eye-opener to woman and even men that are in abusive situations that you need leave it affects your family also not just you.  Also that people realize you can drink yourself to death.  I highly recommend this book.

Willing To Believe by R.C. Sproul

"Willing To Believe" by R.C. Sproul is a book about understanding the role of our will in salvation.   As usual of R.C. Sproul's book this was not a quick read as it was in depth study.  However it is more of a study of the different beliefs over a true bible study type book.  It still was good read on all the different arguments out there on free will.   I would have enjoyed more scripture to debate each side of the arguments of human will.  So with that understanding I do recommend this book as it is a good look at human will with our salvation.

Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids by Sandy Silverthorne

"Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids" by Sandy Silverthorne is a kids book filled with fun and at time cheesy jokes.  This is just a fun book with all kinds of jokes great for little kids all the way up to adults.  These are very clean jokes and riddles which is a relief that you don't have to worry about filthy jokes for kids. I laughed at lot of these myself even old ones I had not heard in years.  I highly recommend this book especially since my 14 year old kept stealing from me to read it.

The Gospel for Muslims by Thabiti Anyabwile

"The Gospel for Muslims" by Thabiti Anyabwile is about encouraging us to share Christ with confidence especially to Muslims.  This was a very interesting and intriguing book but I do think a lot of the tips could be used not only to witness to Muslims but other non-believers as well.  If you are looking for an in depth apologetics book then this one is not for you.  It was just a basic average Joe type of sharing the Gospel book.  This was a very encouraging book that reminds me it is my duty as a Christian to witness to all people no matter who they are.  I highly recommend this book for any Christian.

Raising World Changers in a Changing World by Kristen Welch

"Raising World Changers in a Changing World" by Kristen Welch is about learning the joy of giving not just a little but all of what God has given you.  This was a very good book on reminding us about the beauty of giving.  So many books on giving just talk about how if you give you get more this book is not that type.  The author writes about giving in the biblical way which is about sharing what God has blessed you with other no matter how much or how little and not worry about what you may get.  She really does a good job of showing giving is not about you but about others.  I highly recommend this book as a great book on giving.

The Black and The Blue by Matthew Horace

"The Black and The Blue" by Matthew Horace is a book from the viewpoint of a police officer on racism and the police.  What a powerful book that is not on the sensational side or even one sided.  What do I mean by one sided well when it comes to race and the police it seems in our modern society that it is that people believe only side.  Well this author is not only an African-American but also a police officer so he truly knows both sides.  He does not hold back on his views or what he personally has experienced from racist co-workers or what he has seen as a public person.  The blatant racism he experienced was sad and should not be happening but sadly it is.  The author really shows us how in our modern times we think racism is gone but it really is still there just hidden right under the surface.  This was a very powerful book and I highly recommend it.

Why I Hate Green Beans by Lincee Ray

"Why I Hate Green Beans" by Lincee Ray is a memoir of the authors life of ups and downs.  This was interesting the biggest thing I got from this memoir is that the author loves the show "The Bachelor".  It was interesting to read the viewpoint of someone who also has issues with body image.  However intriguing this memoir I could not always connect with the author at some points I just wanted to hurry up and get thru the book.  But even with I do recommend it as a very good and interesting story on the authors life.

"100 Question Every First-Time Home Buyer Should Ask" by Ilyce R. Glink is what exactly it says a book for home buyers.  This was a great book for anyone including someone who has bought a house before as there might be things they might not have thought of.   It was also not just a book just about getting the best mortgage but also the best house.  Also it was nice to see actual people's stories of buying a home in this.   Very good information that I look forward to using one day if I am ever ready to buy a home.

How To Be A Perfect Christian by The Babylon Bee

"How To Be A Perfect Christian" by The Babylon Bee is a sarcastic look on how to be the most  perfect Christian out there.  Yes this book is tongue in cheek but at the same time it does teach you truth while being sarcastic.  It goes after common sacred cows of American Christianity and even popular teachers that are not correct. However it does it in a fun and shake you head type of way.  I love the way The Babylon Bee uses sarcasm and humor to teach truth as some people just can't see the truth without showing how ridiculous the false they are believing is.  This is not just a fun book but a very good learning book at the same time.  I highly recommend it especially if you already love reading The Babylon Bee.

I Will Not Fear by Melba Pattillo Beals

"I Will Not Fear" by Melba Pattillo Beals is her story of faith during the trials of her life starting even at birth all up to to now days.  Her story of faith is so powerful and interesting that once I started reading it I just couldn't put it down.  She is famous for being one of the Little Rock nine African Americans that integrated the High School in Little Rock.  She has gone through things that could break most people but she stood strong in her faith in God.  One thing I thought was a good point that she brought up is that she still faces discrimination in housing for being African American.  Also she really brings up the danger of child offenders and how the stalk their victims or almost victims.  This was a very powerful book that I highly recommend anyone to read.

Mrs. Oswald Chambers by Michelle Ule

"Mrs. Oswald Chambers" Michelle Ule is about the woman who stood by her more famous husband Oswald Chambers.  This was an interesting book about not just the wife of Oswald Chambers but their life together.  There life was not easy but praise God they survived and were witness of God's provisions.  Now I will say if you don't know who Oswald Chambers is then you may not understand why this book is interesting.  Before you say all Christians know who he is no they don't so research them to see if you want to read this book.  I do recommend it as a good historical information on a couple in the faith.

Breaking Cover by Michele Rigby Assad

"Breaking Cover" by Michele Rigby Assad is the author's story of becoming a CIA agent and her life in and after being in the CIA.  This was a very interesting book that once I picked it up I could not put it down.  The author really does an excellent job on telling her story without giving away secrets or details that could hurt others.  Her story is also about how our paths are not ours alone but how God wants them to go as she did things she never thought she would be able to do.  It was interesting how God used her skills she learned from the CIA in her civilian life after she left the department.  Also it was really good to read on how she seen the hand of God in her life.  I highly recommend this book if you like memoir as I do.

On Pills and Needles by Rick Van Warner

"On Pills and Needles" by Rick Van Warner is the story of a father trying to save his son from Opioid Addiction. This book is a powerful look from a father's standpoint dealing with his soon starting as a teen.  His story is the story of many parents in this country.  Many spending their own money hoping their child will be clean with rehab but a lot of times the rehab system is broken also.   Also we need to understand this story starts with a prescription drug called OxyContin which is also called a synthetic heroin.  The damage that this drug and actual heroin can cause in a community is devastating but not always as devastating as it is to the family of an addict.  This book helps us remember that the addicts are people also and that someone out there does love them.  Very powerful and I highly recommend it.

The Last Girl by Nadia Murad

"The Last Girl" by Nadia Murad is the powerful story of a young woman who was life as she knew was stolen from ISIS. Nadia was a poor young woman just living her life in her Yazidi community Iraw when ISIS came thru and destroyed her life in ways no one should ever have to go thru.  I just don't know how she has the strength to write about the deaths she seen and the rapes she had to endure as being used as a sex slave by ISIS.  The emotional and physical torture she dealt with most could never even live thru let alone write about.  But her story and the story of many other victims of ISIS need to be heard. If you want to read this powerful book then you need to know this is not a warm fuzzy book it is telling the real truth.  The evil of people (she talks about not only the men members but also the woman members) blows my mind but I know it is out there.  I highly recommend this book so you can know what other people and some of the refugees have had to go thru.
